My vet doesn't want to prescribe Actigall for our guinea pig, who had
bladder stones removed surgically in October and now has them again. I read
about Actigall in Guinea PIg Lynx, and it sounded good, but the vet looked
it up and said it's contraindicated in rabbits and guinea pigs. The vet says
to give her calcium citrate, which might dissolve them. She's only three
years old, and now that she's improving from a urinary tract infection
because she's taking a sulfa antibiotic, I need to figure out what to do
next. The vet had a hard time in the surgery in October. How can I dissolve
this bladder stone quickly? She'll be x-rayed again in three weeks to see if
the stone is bigger or smaller. If it's bigger, she'll have surgery again.
If she does, how can I keep them from coming back? She eats Cavy Cuisine,
lots of veggies and greens, no longer any parsley or spinach, I've been
giving her 25 ml of water twice a day since the surgery in October to try to
flush out the crystals before they become bladder stones, but to no avail,
she's got another fairly large stone. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated. We love Mattie, and I really want to help her.
