Greetings, Merle -

I am so glad to hear that Lucky is coming along after surgery, but sorry to
hear about the blood-tinged urine. I believe I remember someone in the GPDD
saying that their doctor mentioned that piggies could have blood off and on
for almost a year after a surgery.

My doctor didn't say that, but she did say the with the deep, multi-layered
cuts that are involved in bladder surgery, piggies could have little clots
and 'free bleeders' that break loose and pass through the urine for quite a
while.

Mollie continued having pink urine off and on and, when we did a culture on
her, she had a pseudomonas infection. It turns out that she had had this
infection before the FIRST ordeal that she went though. At that point, she
did one oral round of Baytril and two rounds of Baytril injections - one low
dose round and one high dose round. Her urine did clear up for a while
after the Baytril, but not for very long.

As it turns out, although Baytril is a great antibiotic for GP's in most
instances, it is not an effective antibiotic for pseudomonas. My exotics
vet has put her on a Cipro (cyprofloxacin) suspension and, after only one
week on it, the number of pseudomonas colonies that cultured out in her
urine were way down.

Maybe you could ask your vet about the possibility of the bloody urine being
a stubborn infection?? It's worth a chance to cover all possiblilties.

I don't know how ultrasounds for piggies are done. I know that someone will
give you good information on it. There are so many knowlegeable folks in
these digests.

I'll be thinking of you and Lucky and I hope that all goes well.

Please share with us what you find out.

Candy; Topper, and his still-recovering Mollie
