Joel -
I am so sorry to hear that Star is continuing to have problems. Please know
that we are continuing to keep her (and you) in our hearts and thoughts.
Two things came to mind as I read your message.
First, that she may very well be incontinent due to the antibiotic or UTI;
or the stone could be in her urethra, causing her to "spray" as the uring
comes out around it, wetting her fur in the process. If this is the case
then it would seem that once all is well, her chronic wetness would clear up
also.
The second thing I thought of is this - I can't remember whether or not
Star is on pain medication. Sometimes when piggies are in pain, they will
not move around as much. As a result of that, they continue to sit where
they urinate and it keeps their little bottoms chronically wet. Mollie does
this and it is only when she is in pain. If this is the case with Star,
then maybe a pain med would help until the UTI/stone issue is resolved.
I don't know if any of this will help or not. It is so very easy to feel
helpless and defeated for these little ones when they are so ill. Please
know that you have many folks thinking about you and Star and sending
strength and comfort.
Give her a little kiss on her tiny head for me. Please let us know how she
is doing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our five year old cavy, Star, has developed quite a case of
incontinence secondary to her UTI and bladder stones. Her rump is
soaked with urine. We have been washing the area off twice a day,
patting it with paper towels more frequently and applying diluted
betadine and balmex, with an occasinal preparation-h coating. We are
continuing to give her bactrim (now about day 14 on bactrim).
Will this incontinence go away as the UTI is cleared up by the
antibiotic? Will it go away if we opt for an operation to remove the
stones?
Joel
