Hello:
Mimi (my very first guinea pig here in Canada) started all of the sudden to bleed. Last Friday she was diagnosed with UTI and since then treated with Baytril and Metacam.
I rushed Mimi instantly to the vet for an additional ultrasound. Most likely Mimi does have a Struvite bladderstone but my vet will gather an additional opinion from Vancouver.
I am seeking desperately help and support about the following questions:
1. If we can determine we really deal with a Struvite is surgery the one and only option? As Mimi is already 4 1/2 years old I am reluctant to surgery (and we are living in a remote area of Canada).
2. I've heard from Dr. Hermann Wenzel from Germany that Baytril may be not the right medication. Any recommendations about medications available in Canada to treat bladderstones?
3. Is there any chance to avoid surgery due to a strict diet?
You will probably understand how concerned I am about Mimi and I really appreciate your support.
Thanks,
Silvia
